Discover the psychological reality of hitting a savings goal. An honest look at the fear of spending money, saving guilt, and achieving true peace of mind.

I hit a savings target last week.
I've never really had any targets like that before, other than paying off the mortgage years ago.
I didn't even ever intend to have one again. I just kept minimising my spends and maximising my savings interest. And suddenly I had this big pot, so I decided to try to hit the next big number this year... and I have.
I don't feel any different. And no one would know to look at me. But to me, from my very poor beginnings, I feel like a millionaire. I have enough behind me now to give up work and live happily ever after with no money worries (one of the biggest causes of stress).
Now I have that though, and I've ticked that box off, I feel weirdly at a loss. A loss of purpose and motivation. I don't know how to spend money. I'm scared to spend it. I feel guilty. I haven't bought a new pair of shoes in 6 years. I'm not even sure I need a new pair. Who looks at my feet anyway?
