An honest 1st hand look at the hidden greed inside the UK insurance industry.
27th September 2025
About 3 weeks after I bought my last car, another car went into it in a car park. The accident caused a scratch on one bumper. Nothing structural. It drove fine, no real harm done. I wasn't in the car at the time, another car rolled into it.
I had the other parties details and there was video of the incident so there was no doubt what happened or who was liable.
I went to multiple body shop places and got a quote for £80 to fix it. My friend, a mechanic, suggested asking the other party to pay £250 to cover the repair cost, my time, fuel, loss of use of car while being repaired etc. The other party flatly refused to pay.
As the car was only 3 years old at the time I definitely wanted to get the repair done for when I go to sell it in the future so I claimed through insurance.
The final bill was £2300, read that again, £2300. A 2775% increase in price.
To fix an £80 scratch which presumably, even the £80 repair company was making a profit out of the transaction.
Doesn't that just highlight the greed and corporate nonsense that goes into the insurance industry? Can you imagine if every car repair under insurance is being inflated by 2775%? No wonder all our insurance premiums cost so much.
It really makes me annoyed and upset that is what it's all about these days.
We can't stop corporate greed from inflating the cost of car insurance, but we can stop wasting money on non-essentials elsewhere to protect our wallets. Head over to the Non-Essentials Calculator to hunt down your own hidden household leaks and keep your money strictly on Team Me today.
