Don't believe everything you see!

I'm thinking about checking my credit score. I'm a bit nervous because back in 2020, the last time I checked it, it was 999.... and I don't want to check it again and see its gone down.
I know since then there have been a couple of occasions where money was debited unexpectedly which made me go overdrawn, but immediately I was notified (thank goodness for those texts) I transferred money in to cover it and bring my account back into credit. I've spoken to the bank both times and they've assured me that it wouldn't affect my credit score.
Which actually just proves that even the most conscientious and diligent of people can still have accidents with their monies and go overdrawn by mistake.
So it got me to thinking 'what is the average credit score in the UK?'. According to Experian its 797 out of 999.
I'm not going to talk in depth about what each category of credit score means as there is an excellent article here What Is A Good Credit Score? | Experian https://share.google/gHFgdVscLro9wE1Lt
And here's a breakdown of the average scores across the UK from Equifax.
The point of this ramble is to highlight to you, that if nearly 20% of the UK has a 'poor' credit score rating, and 'fair' is 11%, and even 'good' is only 20.5% of the population, that around 50% of all the people you see are living beyond their means, borrowing excessively or not making their payments on time or at all.
So stop trying to keep up with the Jones, because half the Jones can't afford it themselves !!!
Be brave, don't follow the herd, be free!!LFx
