Time to put my money where my mouth is...

Today's the day I've got around to putting all my ramblings onto the website.  Would you believe I actually bought the domain in 2014? Have never used it, just kept paying to keep it and thinking 'one day I'll use it'. I wasn't really sure what for, what I had to say worthy of sharing with anyone.

But now, I don't really actually mind if anyone reads it, or more importantly, actually likes what I have to say. My motivation is pure. To help people understand that you don't have to have everything to be happy. That if you invest a little time and thought into looking after what you have, be that belongings or your money, or that if you go without things, whether you can afford them or not, you can save enough to live a comfortable life and not feel like you're missing out. Or maybe like myself, be effectively retired by 52.


It's a glorious spring morning.  I'm sitting down the garden with my cup of redbush tea, listening to the birds and watching them going a bit mad as they're against the clock to build nests for this years offspring. I'm admiring the wonderful summerhouse my partner and I built last year out of bits and bobs I saved from house clearance jobs. I'm not going to work today, I'm going to potter in the garden this morning and visit a friend this afternoon. I love my life, it's better than I could have ever have wished for. I don't have much, but I have no debts, money in the bank, a pension pot I can live on when the time comes and only 2 more years of National Insurance contributions to make to get the full state pension when I'm 67/68 (whatever is retirement age when that time comes). It's a great place to be. 


I hope that if any of my ramblings make any kind of sense to you, that you can implement some changes that will see you have no money worries in the future and live a relaxing, peaceful, happy life for the rest of your days too.

Cutting down on your energy expenses isn't hard

Written  16th November 2024 I had some good news yesterday. It's a bit of a long story. I got an email from my energy supplier a few days ago about the upcoming price cap change so started looking at switching tarriffs / suppliers if there are better fixed rates around as I'm currently on a variable deal.  1st off I looked at my current providers offers. They were quoting amounts based on some random usage numbers but I wasn't sure where those numbers came from.  Were they based on my usage or just some industry standard ones that everyone gets forced to use?  I had a look through my online account and couldn't find my kwh usage per year anywhere on my account so I just decided it was easier to just trawl through all my bills for the last nearly 4 years and get the stats myself. Be careful what you wish for...

Written  27th December 2024 Since 1997 on a budget holiday to Tenerife, I thought I'd like to eventually live in the sun. Somewhere without the cold, gloomy British winters. And since then, I've always thought 'one day I'll stay somewhere with a sea view on holiday'. That would be so posh and amazing and just wow and I'd feel like 'I'm so great because I can afford to stay somewhere with a sea view'. I'm currently sat on my apartment balcony in Lagos, Portugal. I can't see the sea yet because it's still dark. But I can hear it. It's loud. Very loud. It's annoyingly loud. I wish I hadn't paid extra for a sea view and maybe had an apartment on the other side of the complex. D'oh!!! I think it's the same with a lot of things, like Christmas, the anticipation is exciting but the reality is that it's just another day, another thing and very often an anti-climax in reality (even if we don't want to admit that).
